FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY The Friends of the Library is a group of private citizens formed to support the library. They have an active membership that organize fund-raises, such as the annual Christmas tree fund, for purchase of library items. The Friends have been instrumental in providing the library with items they could not otherwise afford. Friends of the Library meet monthly on the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Library conference room. All members and anyone interested in joining are encouraged to attend. |
HISTORY OF FRIENDS
OF THE LIBRARY The Friends of the Library was organized in 1992 under the able direction of its President-Founder Aline Cyr. Their purpose was "to maintain an Association of persons interested in books and libraries, to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs, and to stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, etc." Over the years, the "Friends" have assisted the librarian and the Board of Trustees in many ways: They have sponsored various programs and purchased a variety of items which the facility needed, such as, new curtains for the windows in the library and in the lobby, vertical blinds for the librarian's office, the re-upholstery of sofas and chairs, a hot water tank, a portrait of Martine Pelletier for the Martine A. Pelletier Special Collection Room, to name a few. |
